5 Simple Tips to Make Your Vacuum Last Longer
Practical care steps you can do at home to improve suction, reduce breakdowns, and extend the life of your cleaner.

Look after your vacuum like a pro
You can do these at home—no special tools required.
1) Empty the bag or bin regularly
A full bag/bin makes the motor work harder and reduces suction. Empty when two‑thirds full. If your model has a bag, avoid reusing bags—they lose filtration after the first use.
2) Clean or replace filters
Dirty filters restrict airflow. Wash reusable pre‑motor filters monthly (check your manual) and let them dry completely—at least 24 hours. Replace HEPA/post‑motor filters as recommended.
3) Check for blockages
Inspect hoses, wands, and the floorhead for clogs from dust, pet hair, or small objects. Remove obstructions gently—never push them further in.
4) Keep the brush roll tangle‑free
Hair and threads wrap around the brush bar and reduce pickup. Switch off/unplug, then use scissors to cut along the groove and pull the debris away. Avoid damaging bristles.
5) Get an annual service
Like a car, a yearly service keeps your cleaner efficient and extends lifespan. We’ve serviced thousands of machines since 1986 across Barnsley and South & West Yorkshire.
